Class Information
CLASSES & EVENTS
All classes, audits and events are presented online, in order by day and time. Check the category tab to search for classes by instructor, medium, or days. Study the information provided with each project before making your selections. The skill level, medium, surface, fees, included materials, class goals and times are listed.
SKILL LEVELS
Classes are designated by teachers as:
Beginner: For students with knowledge of the fundamentals of that medium. Taught at a slow pace with teacher assistance.
- Intermediate: For students with a good understanding of the fundamentals who are proficient in that medium. Taught at a medium pace with moderate teacher assistance.
- Advanced: For students with advanced skills in that medium. Taught at a brisk pace with minimal teacher assistance.
- Intensive Advanced Study: Provides a challenging experience for advanced painters proficient in that medium.
Use these guidelines when selecting classes and please do not exceed your abilities. Do not enroll in an advanced class if you have been painting a short while. When you choose a medium with which you are unfamiliar, select a beginning project. Requesting classes beyond your skill level may create hardship for the teacher and other students in the class. If you choose a class below your skill level, please remember the teacher may conduct the class at a slow pace.
MATERIALS/COSTS
Class fees and project fees are listed separately for your information, then combined for your total amount due. Project fees are not collected in the classroom. The total amount due must be paid in full to the Society at the time of registration before classes will be confirmed.
SPECIAL SUPPLIES
Special supplies are required to be brought by the student for many classes. These are noted in the supply list on each detail page. Teachers expect you to come to class with those supplies. In addition to special supplies, you’re also expected to have:
- good supply of quality brushes for the medium with which you’ll be working;
- palette, palette knife and paper towels;
- water containers for water-based classes (brush cleaner is provided for oil-based media);
- containers for paint if you think you’ll need to take paint from the classroom to finish class projects.
Due to building and fire codes, aerosol propellants may be used only in specified areas.
PUBLISHED & TAUGHT PROJECTS
Some projects at the SDP Conference have been previously published or taught.
CLASS RESALES
The Society does not repurchase or refund classes you’re unable to attend. However, a resale bulletin board will be in the Class Sales area if you would like to sell your class or purchase available classes. For more information, please stop by the Class Sales area at Conference. There is a resale fee of $2 per class.
